Today is vernal equinox, once in six months the length of the day and night is equal. It's neither cold nor warm, just calm very calm morning. Usually this day is holiday in Japan, all the more today is Sunday, people usually keep on sleeping till the sun start shinning.
Secretary of State Ms Condoleezza Rice came to Japan last night mainly in order to discuss reopening of the import of American beef. We used to consume American beef as well as beefs of other countries before, but because BSE affected cattles were found among tens of thousands of American cattles, we started refrain from importing American beefs since then. To tell the truth, BSE affected cattles were found among Japan's ones, but because of the 'beef traceability law', now all beefs are traceable each by each from their birth, so consumers are sure to buy Japan's ones. Before that, the consumption of Japan's beef was drooped till almost nill. Throughout this turmoils, Ausie beef turned out to be the safest beef, so many food industries prefer to use Australian beef rather than American's and Japan's.
We are not sure what will become of her sue to reopen import of American beef, even though we reopened import, the outcomes would not make many differences, unless we feel sure enough not to have the slightest possibility of containing prion in beef, nobody would dare to choose American beefs in a store. That said the reopening of American import jumps the consumption of American beefs. If this measure has been badly affecting the incomes of American farmers, we would like to consider reopening the bar as serious as America's farmers. Personally I've been thinking it's OK to lift the ban in a limited industries - eat-out industries -restaurants, food chains. Just leave it to consiumer's judgement. I think it's the best way for both American exporters and Japanese importers.
Any way Mr Condoleezza Rice came this very best day of the year, welcome...
